St. John Vianney Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus was founded on March 29, 1882, in New Haven, CT by Blessed Fr Michael McGivney. He did so in response to the economic conditions of the time and the poverty of his parishioners. A mutual support fraternity founded on the mission of Jesus Christ, it was and continues to be a source of financial support for survivors of Brother Knights and offers Knights meaningful ways to demonstrate our love of Christ expressed in service to others.
Council 8201, St. John Vianney Parish was chartered on Columbus Day 1982. Our 100 plus Knights are a part of the nearly 2 million Knights worldwide. The Councils’ visible activities include monthly breakfasts which benefit such causes as the Newman Center in Cheney, families needing help at holidays, and the SJV School. The local Council actively supports our clergy with the Annual Clergy Appreciation Dinner with proceeds donated to Bishop White Seminary. A new event for 2022 is the St. Pattys Day Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner in March with proceeds going to Cor Christi, the local expression of Pope Francis request for a preliminary year of study and reflection for young men away from the incessant demands of society as preparation for entrance into clerical discernment.
Are you Knight material? Any practicing Catholic male over 18 is eligible to become a Knight. We encourage reflection on the seriousness of joining the Knights of all our inquirers. Council meetings are the second Tuesday of the month in the Parish Hall at 7 pm. Officer meetings are the fourth Tuesday of the month in the Parish Office at 7 pm. -
Grand Knight's Message
Greetings!
I have been a Knight for about 12 years. And I must tell you I never intended to be a Knight let alone Grand Knight. Helping men I admired with their work in the parish at the Rummage Sale, breakfasts, parish maintenance was all fun and nothing more than that. Just a way to do something for the parish that was not a real commitment.
But getting involved with the Council gradually led me to join. BUT never, EVER as an officer. NOPE not me, never. I remember the first Council meeting I went to, my Brother Knights looked to see if hell had frozen over. In June. It was a while before I went back. But I did and I have not regretted it.
Consider joining the Knights. You will not be pressured to attend meetings or volunteer-but you WILL be offered opportunities to help the parish and thus serve our Lord Jesus who asks us to treat one another as we would be treated.
Your Council has much planned for the coming year as we adjust to the presence of Covid. For my Brother Knights please renew your presence and for my future brother Knights, I look forward to getting to know you as we serve Christ by serving one another.
