Included in this group are parishioners of St. John and St. Paschal, 62 years and over, and anyone else that considers themselves retired. It is coordinated by a team of volunteers. They celebrate monthly birthdays for all YAH members, and a card is mailed to each memeber in the month of his or her birthday. Their monthly celebration is usually in conjunction with another program of interest to the group.
Potluck lunches are often scheduled, videos and speakers are used on topics of interest for the group. Grandparents Day with the school children is also scheduled, as well as attending a School Mass with the children who often provide refreshments and entertainment afterward. Occassionally, small support groups are formed to assist anyone experiencing the grieving process. For more information or if you are interested in being part of this ministry, regardless of age, please contact the parish office at (509)926-5428.
The Prayer Chain is a quiet ministry. We pray selflessly with faith in God's goodness for those who wish to share their petitions and joys with us. If you would like to be part of this loving ministry, or have a prayer request for us, please contact Jayne Seaboldt at 509-921-0945 or if unavailable, Mary McLeslie at 509-926-0460 for SJV and Rosalie Thompson at 509-443-7268 for SP.
The committee was originally formed to deal with issues of social justice. At the direction of the Pastoral Council, a committee is active to focus on the St. John community's tithe of time, talent, and treasure to the outside world, the broader Church. In response to the Spirituality of Giving, we seek to respond to the Gospel call to serve and to be actively involved in working with the poor and those in need.
Some of the many groups with whom we work are: Crosswalk, Catholic Relief Services, St. Margaret's Hall, Valley Center (Koats for Kids and Mother's Day Baby Shower), Jesuit Volunteers International and the St. John Vianney Chore Ministry.
Anyone in the parish willing to give of their time, talent and energy, and able to volunteer with any of the above groups, is encouraged to serve your neighbor in need. If you are in need of such services, please let us help by contacting (509)926-5428. At this time, Chore Ministry is being coordinated by the Outreach Committee.
